Services offered:
The ecenglish.com website runs on WordPress Multisite with MultilingualPress, serving prospective English language students across 9 languages — all without sacrificing performance or editorial control.
Nine native sites,
one network,
zero content drift
EC English runs language schools in 7 countries, serving prospective students across 9 languages alongside the B2B agents who book on their behalf. Rebuilding ecenglish.com meant solving a specific problem: push every new location page, course update, and campaign live across all nine markets in lockstep, while letting each language site adapt its own images, copy, and layout for local search intent rather than running a word-for-word translation.
IT Monks built the site on WordPress Multisite with MultilingualPress, giving each language its own full WordPress site inside a single network. The Gutenberg editing experience is now identical across all nine versions, so after one onboarding session the EC English team manages translations independently, with no ongoing developer involvement. Publishing across every language is faster, the clean data architecture scales as the course catalogue grows, and per-market customisation has lifted local SEO rankings and traffic in each market.

The challenge

One brand, nine languages, zero room for content drift

EC English operates language schools in 7 countries, offering English immersion programmes to students aged 16 and up. Their website serves two overlapping audiences: B2C students who need to find and book the right course in the right city, and B2B agents and partners who manage bookings on behalf of groups.
With 30+ school locations to represent across 9 language markets, the content operation was substantial. Every new location page, course update, or promotional campaign needs to go live across all languages in lockstep, and each market may require locally adapted images, copy, and layouts rather than a simple word-for-word translation.
When IT Monks took on the rebuild of ecenglish.com, the goal was clear: deliver a multilingual WordPress experience that was genuinely native to how the EC English editorial team already worked, while giving the agency the flexibility to fine-tune each language site independently. The platform had to handle a Gutenberg block-based theme without compromise, scale across all nine markets, and remain easy for the client team to maintain without ongoing developer involvement.
The solution

WordPress Multisite with MultilingualPress for a native multilingual editorial experience
EC English and IT Monks chose MultilingualPress for its architecture: each language runs as a separate WordPress site within a multisite network, which maps directly to how EC English thinks about its markets — distinct but connected. This approach was especially important for a Gutenberg-based project, where the editing experience needed to feel identical whether a content editor was working in English, Spanish, or Japanese.
WordPress-native editing across all languages
One of the primary requirements from EC English was consistency: editors should not have to learn a different workflow depending on which language they are updating. MultilingualPress’s multisite architecture delivers this out of the box. Because each language site is a full WordPress site, the Gutenberg editor, block library, and content management tools work identically across all nine versions of the site. After a single onboarding session, IT Monks no longer needed to spend development hours supporting the translation workflow — the client team was fully self-sufficient.
Per-language flexibility without dev overhead
A one-size-fits-all translation approach does not work for a global language school. EC English needed to adapt images, alt text, content layout, and messaging for each market — not just swap out text strings. MultilingualPress’s content relationships and per-site customization make this straightforward. Changes to a shared element can be propagated across language sites, while market-specific content remains independent. IT Monks implemented this level of customization without writing large volumes of custom code, because MultilingualPress is designed to be extended within standard WordPress patterns.

Under the hood
Performance through clean architecture
For a high-traffic booking site, database bloat is a genuine concern. One of EC English’s and IT Monks’ reasons for choosing MultilingualPress over alternatives was its approach to data storage: rather than creating large numbers of custom tables, MultilingualPress stores relationships between content in the default WordPress format, preserving data integrity and keeping the database clean. Each language site has its own tables within the multisite network, which means there is no query-filtering overhead at runtime. The result is a site that scales without performance degradation as content volume grows.
The outcome
Faster publishing, stronger local SEO, and a self-sufficient editorial team
Faster content operations across nine languages
Creating new pages and rolling out updates — a course change, a new school, a seasonal promotion — is now significantly faster across all language versions. What previously required careful coordination and repetitive manual effort now happens in a fraction of the time, with the interface making it easy for editors to work confidently across languages.
Improved SEO and traffic from local markets
Because each language site can be fully customized — images, alt text, metadata, layout, and content — IT Monks fine-tuned ecenglish.com for local search intent in each market. The result has been improved SEO rankings and increased traffic from local markets, with each language version presenting EC English as a genuinely local offering rather than a translated global page.
A maintainable platform that scales with the business
EC English operates in a market where course catalogues, school details, and promotional content change regularly. MultilingualPress gives IT Monks confidence the platform will scale alongside the business without compromising performance, and that future customization on a specific language stays straightforward. The clean architecture and standard WordPress data model mean no hidden dependencies down the line.
